Dreams

I attended a conference this week about dreams and encounters with the presence of God. Did you know that in the Bible there are accounts of twenty dreams and twenty visions? Talk about 20/20 vision! Yep. And they’re not all in the Old Testament either.

They also happen under the New Covenant with Jesus Christ. Dreams and visions could be considered characteristics of our consistent, never changing God. And a definite way He chooses to communicate with us as we venture through this thing we call life.

In Matthew, the first book of the New Testament of the Bible, God kicks right off with speaking to Joseph in a dream concerning his future bride, Mary. “But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.” Matthew 1:20 NKJV

And then God does it again in the very next chapter. “Then, being divinely warned in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed for their own country another way.” Matthew 2:12 NKJV

Think About It

If God speaks to you always, what on earth makes you think He shuts down communication once you fall asleep? Furthermore, God wants you to dream, if for no other reason than so He can speak to you. It’s true. God speaks day and night. And revelations are given during the night. “Day unto day utters speech, And night unto night reveals knowledge.” Psalms 19:2 NKJV

The question is are we listening? Are we paying attention? Do we bother to dig deeper into the things we see and hear in our days, and even in our nights? It makes be think of Proverbs 25:2, which states “It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, But the glory of kings is to search out a matter.”

Its clear that God puts it out there, but slightly hides it. God wants us to dig deeper. “Search” it out. Discover the pearls of wisdom He’s slowing revealing bit by bit before our very eyes.

So, go ahead. Dream. Even if its a confusing “bad pizza” dream. God may still be talking.

Dream anyway. Write it down. Then ask God to reveal to you its meaning/s. Search them out. And apply the wisdom God speaks to you individually through your personal dreams.

Happy Dreaming!
