Funny Texas Stereotypes

There are a lot of stereotypes about Texas out there. And, having roots in Texas, I can attest to the fact that some of them are way off. While, on the other hand, some are pretty spot on! But, in general, they’re all pretty funny when you stop and think about it.

Take for instance the assumption that everyone in Texas rides horses and owns a pickup truck. Umm…nope! That’s inaccurate. Or, the insistence that everyone speaks too fast and slurs, or mumbles, their words. Welllll….. Not exactly everyone. Lol! Though, that one is pretty strong among some groups. Unfortunately (or fortunately?), I am included in the “fast talkin'” group. When I get around certain members of my Texas family my accent can get pretty darn powerful! (Thank you. Thank you, very much! Lol!)

So, anyway, stereotypes can be hilarious or predictable. Which is what came to mind when I saw some Texas graphics on social media this week. They were funny, then I realized how they were actually a little on the accurate side. Well, accurate to a degree. There are still some wild assumptions. But, they still made me laugh. Therefore, I knew I had to share them with you guys. Enjoy!

Texas Commute Graphic

This is highly funny! Not accurate. But still, it feels accurate sometimes. Especially when you get stuck behind the almighty, road-hogging, 5 mph tractor driven by “farmer John” all the way to the next pasture. Gotta love ’em!

Texas Career Graphic

Ha! Walmart does indeed seem to be everywhere! Although, street tacos seem to be all the rage right now everywhere you turn. Then there’s the cows… Actually, you could probably color the entire state in a rainbow of those colors. Well, except for the “tech millionaire” green. I imagine they keep their whereabouts on the down-low. I know I would! (And, no. I am not a tech millionaire. Darn it.)

Texas Football Graphic

Oh, football. Well, I have to say, as far as this goes… Go COWBOYS!!!! How ’bout da ‘Boys!!! Whoop! Whoop!

Texas Geography Graphic

Yep, the “North Texas” vs the “Actual North Texas”. And, yes, Fort Worth does fancy itself as part of the West. After all, according to the Fort Worth city website, their city motto is “Where the West Begins”. Yeehaw!

Texas Language Graphic

Well, I don’t know about that! Although “Boomhouer” might be a little more spread out than that. Just sayin’. Lol! Here’s a link on Boomhouer, if you want to know what they’re referring to. (Yep! I had to look it up too. You’re welcome!)

Texas Politics Graphic

Again, this seems wrong. That’s a little too red. Although I could be wrong. (See? I’m a big girl. I can admit when I’m wrong. I’m not. But, I can admit it when I am. Muwahahaha…)

Texas Hazard Graphic

Ok. This one is hilarious! But, mostly, seems legit. The fact is that “east Texas” is indeed awfully close to Arkansas! Lol! (Ok. My apologies. Bad stereotype there. Just as bad as assuming there’s any familial inbreeding simply because of the family’s location. Although, in some “locations” it does seem to be more “socially acceptable”. Just sayin’.)

Texas Vegetation Graphic

Hmmm… I’ll have to say, this one seems pretty accurate. Although, I have not been to every one of these areas. But, still. Accurate!

Well, that’s it! Although those were funny, I hope you enjoyed them and learned a little something of the great state of Texas!

So long, folks! Ya’ll come on back around next week now, ya hear!
