My Brother and Memory Lane

Some of my fondest memories involve my brother that passed away a few years back. I miss him so much some days. Other days it’s as if he’s just off doing his own thing and will be at the next family gathering. Have you ever had one of those days where you can’t get someone out of your mind? It just makes you all the more contemplative when that “someone on your mind” is no longer around to build memories with.

Well, today was one such day in regards to my brother. Maybe it’s because his birthday was this week. Or, maybe it was because of a family reunion this month. Possibly it may be a little of both. Whatever the reason, he’s definitely on my mind. So, I thought I’d share a few things that make me think of him.

Bananas

There’s a funny story from our childhood that involves bananas and business and pretend school sessions. Its weird. And not really very funny as an adult. But, as kids, my brother had us rolling on the floor, laughing so hard we were crying. He was such a goofball prankster! I was really surprised he didn’t go into comedy. Lol! Good times. Good times.

Rock N Roll

My brother loved 80’s rock! I think he even had rock band posters up in his teen room. Boston’s “Peace of Mind” (above) is one song from back in the day. I was more into country and pop rock at the time. Not him though. He loved his heavy rock.

Education

The dude chased higher education for years. He worked full-time while taking one to two courses every semester. He moved a few times, and each time he would have to transfer universities. Sadly, not all credits would transfer, which extended his college years. Eventually though, after more than fifteen years in college, he transferred to a major state university and finally achieved his bachelors degree. He took only two semesters off before diving back in to earning his master’s degree at A & M University. Yep. I’m the proud sister of an Aggie. Gig ’em!!!

Remembering

For me, he was a great brother, and an overall good guy through the years. Yes, he had his shortfalls. Don’t we all??? And I’m sure he probably made some enemies over the years. But, he loved his family and he excelled at the corporate world. Amongst his shortfalls, he had many great accomplishments. It is those accomplishments I will choose to remember him for. He was so very loved, and will be so very missed.

There’s a song that comes on now that, for some reason, makes me think of my brother and our childhood years. So, I’ll leave you with this song. And, Remember… We’re never promised another day with our siblings, our earliest best friends. So, cherish and hug your brother(s) and/or sister(s) every chance you get while they’re still here on this planet. Here’s Twenty One Pilots with “Stressed Out”.

As always, thanks for stopping by. Talk to you soon!
