Choices. Choose Wisely, My Friends

Choices, choices!  Every day we’re faced with multiple, unending choices and decisions we have to make.  Some are easy and some are not.  Can I get an “Amen!”?!?!?

What ever happened to that childhood fantasy of being an “adult with lots of freedom”?  Lol!   Yeah, right.  Hello!  Life!  Smh….  That freedom comes with a lot of mature decisions we must make.  And those decisions require us to choose our options.  Furthermore, we must choose wisely.

Why???

Every day we each make choices.  Some choices are conscious choices, but most of our choices are seemingly automatic, or subconscious.  We claim that’s just who we are.  But, ultimately it’s those very choices that actually dictate who we are.

From the time we wake in the morning, to the time we fall asleep at night, we make thousands upon thousands of choices.  Those choices are both conscious and subconscious choices that make up our days.  We choose to wake with the alarm; or we choose to hit the snooze.  We choose to move quickly through our routine; or we choose to take our time.

Results….

Whatever the choice is, there is always a consequence.  Yes, every choice has a consequence.  Whether you consciously make that decision, or its a subconscious one, there will always be a consequence.  Good or bad, our choices have consequences.

Choose to eat that huge free-for-all meal, followed by a large serving of sweet perfection for dessert, then collapse on the couch for the night for some well deserved lazy “me” time?  Yep.  Odds are you’re not going to feel so well the next day.  That wonderful comfort meal, delicious dessert, and lazy “me” time, all have consequences.  From health hiccups (think diabetes, heart conditions, etc.), to mental sluggishness, bloating, and on, and on.  All that decadence probably ruined the day afterwards just a bit.

It’s the old physics law coming into play.  You know the one.  The one that states that every action creates an equal and opposing reaction.  Yep.  That’s the deal with choices and consequences.  Choose to hit that snooze button on your alarm?  Yep.  You risk the consequence that you’re going to be late to wherever you need to be.  Choose to get up promptly with the alarm?  Yay! You’ll have the good consequence of being on time for your day to begin.  Woohoo!

It’s Up to You

Conversely, a meal and evening time that are nutritious and “safe” for your health conditions are also choices.  And, like the decadent evening, there are also consequences.  Luckily, those consequences may be much more favorable.

So, as you can see, while all choices do have consequences, not all consequences are bad.  It all boils down to a little forethought.  If we take some time to think about our choices, we can also consider the resulting consequences.

Ultimately, we must decide if we’re willing to face the consequence of our choice.  Is that “day after” worth it???  Yes?  Then dive in and enjoy the heck out of it.  Carp Diem!  No regrets, baby!!!

Furthermore, own it!  Be mature about it.  Own.  It. You made the choice.  Embrace it.  At the least, admit it was a total mess up on your part, apologize if necessary, and move on.  After all, that’s what being a responsible, mature adult is all about.  Right???

So, get out there and enjoy your life.  Be aware of the choices you’re making.   Don’t live life willy-nilly.  Whether they’re conscious or subconscious choices, they are choices nonetheless. And the consequences of those choices will leave ripple effects throughout your life.  Ultimately its your choice.  Choose wisely, my friends.
